Edinburgh Park Assessments 2019

The Parks, Greenspace and Cemeteries division of City of Edinburgh Council has been assessing the quality of our parks on an annual basis since 2008 and has only been able to do this with the help of residents.  To allow us to score every park this year we would appreciate your assistance again — this year’s assessments will be taking place in between 8th April and 5th July 2019.

Parks are assessed using Green Flag Award criteria and every park is assessed once by an assessment team comprising a Lead Assessor along with the valued help of assistants.

Assistants will be teamed up with a Lead Assessor who will have been allocated a list of parks to assess and it is up to you how many you help judge. Parks can take anything from 30 minutes to 2 hours to assess depending on size. The exact date(s) and times will be arranged through discussion with your allocated Lead Assessor. Please be aware that some of the terrain in our parks can be quite hilly and access around the site is not always by tarmac paths, if you don’t wish to assess large or hilly parks please let your Lead Assessor know. You will not be allowed to assess parks you are involved with.

The Lead Assessor will be responsible for arranging the assessments and submitting all the paperwork so all you need to bring is your opinion of what is good and not so good about the parks you are judging and of course suitable clothing. No experience is necessary as guidance documents are available and training will be offered by the Lead Assessor during the first assessment.

If you are interested in helping the Council assess the quality of our parks this year, please send your name and contact details (phone number and email address, so the Lead Assessor can get in touch) plus the park you are involved with (if appropriate) to gary.law@edinburgh.gov.uk by the 29th March 2019.
