As the Merchiston Community Council has a corporate membership with FOMBL, we would like to share the following from FOBML:
We are so pleased to be able to convene again and do our bit to maintain the Meadows and Bruntsfield Links. Individual Fombls have been out and about, weeding and mulching trees, picking up litter and tending the wildflower beds duriing this time, and of course distance will be maintained during our next volunteer session. (10 am to 12 noon)
You will be aware of the furore around the misuse of the Meadows since the relaxation of lockdown, with overcrowding, massive littering, fouling, and damage from disposable BBQs. This is a nationwide problem, and you may wish to support this current Petition to Parliament to ban the sale of disposable BBQs.
A group of stakeholders held a pop-up meeting with Mike Sheilds, the parks manager, last Saturday, to discuss various ways of tackling this problem. Your responses to our previous message were presented to Mike, and the Council.
The group is now working on a dual Toilets and Litter busting plan which will involve residents and local businesses. There is an appetite for change, and many people and groups want to support a new approach.
Please get in touch; we would love to see you on Saturday 25 July, and look forward to hearing what you have been up to during lockdown!
