GOOD NEWS!
The City of Edinburgh Council has pledged funding to improve the Polwarth junction!
£100,000 will be allocated over this year and next to design improvements to the intersection, the streetscape and facilities for pedestrians.
This is great first step towards the renewal of our local centre in Polwarth.
The City Council will now engage with Merchiston Community Council and with Edinburgh Living Streets on the way forward.
Merchiston Community Council (MCC) applied to a new ‘local traffic improvement programme’, recently launched by the City Council, advocating the changes in our Polwarth Pavement report of June 2023.
A city council officer has confirmed that all options for improving the intersection will be considered (there was some speculation in the press that a signalised junction had already been decided but this is not the case).
The City Council hope to make use of at least some of the recent pavement resurfacing work, which they acknowledge was poorly timed in relation to MCC’s campaign.
Our goal now is to show the City Council that the Polwarth community will be a constructive and purposeful partner in discussions about the way forward.
We will keep in close touch with residents and local businesses as this project moves forward. Do please sign up for regular updates using MCC’s contact form here – and stay engaged!
And more good news….
The Council have also committed to funding improvements to pedestrian access at Viewforth Terrace, also within MCC’s area.
