Following the Report on the Second Review of Scottish Parliament Boundaries, which was approved on 15 October 2025 The Scottish Parliament constituency boundaries are changing. The new constituency and regional boundaries will be effective at the next Scottish Parliament general election on 7 May 2026.
While Merchiston District Community Council area is presently almost entirely within the Edinburgh Southern constituency and in the Lothians region, at the coming election it will be almost entirely within the Edinburgh Central constituency, shown on the map, and in the Edinburgh and Lothians East region.
The map below shows the part (outlined in black – apologies for the shaky lines!) of MDCC’s area that remains in the altered Edinburgh Southern constituency. The remainder of our area is now part of the altered Edinburgh Central constituency.

Further information: The Scottish Parliament has 73 constituencies and eight regions. The numbers of constituencies and regions are not changing. Of the current 73 constituencies, 42 will change boundaries, three will change in name only, and 28 will not change. Of the current eight regions, only Mid Scotland and Fife remains unchanged. Five regions will have mainly minor boundary changes, and two will have boundary changes as well as new names.
