We recently received an email (below) from a previous resident of our area expressing their appreciation for the new bench on the bank of the canal behind Polwarth Church. The new bench was unveiled in 2022 (see photo above), after MCC applied for and obtained a City of Edinburgh Council community grant to replace the old delapidated one. The bench was made by local furniture designer and maker Janie Morris and is inscribed: “By still waters I will lead you.”
“I am getting in touch just to note a word of thanks for the work that you do. I was pleased to discover the “new” bench (I hadn’t been for a while…) at the back of Polwarth church by the canal when I revisited tonight. I now live further away, but I appreciated very much this space in the past (including in the pandemic) and was sad to see the old bench fall into disrepair! It was a nice surprise to see the new one today, and for it to be made so well in lovely wood and to retain the same wording which I found very meaningful.“
